BIG NEWS!
*TWO* new books for 2026!
First: my new book AVAILABLE: How adult athletes can escape pain, develop power, and perform well at every age. You can buy it now!
Second: the 2nd Edition of Fast Kids Don’t Train Slow. Pre-orders are open.
Coming Spring 2026.
The second edition goes beyond running faster in straight line for the sport of ultimate.
It gets into: change-of-direction skills, jumping higher from a run and from two feet, tumbling for safer layouts, and how to condition when you have multiple seasons each year. I’m so excited to get this updated resource out for all of you.
My writing style has changed since 2017. Lots more stories about athletes, references to real performance data, and straight talk these days. If you want the original “speed grows like a tree,” “you can’t teach tall” version of FKDTS, check it out below before it goes out of print. If you want the new guide to excelling as a club player (who maybe also plays semi-pro and Masters; you know who you are), pre-order the second edition!
I’m Dunte Hector. I coached a few hundred Ultimate players around the world for three seasons from 2015-2017, ranging from recreational players in Austin’s winter league to men’s semi-pro players for Austin Sol, from regional mixed clubs to international and domestic elite women’s clubs.
Under the business name ATX Speed, I became known for my minimalist approach to conditioning, my intense attention to posture in both lifting and speed work, and for my earnest curiosity about the sport and the athletes who love it.
If you want my speed development philosophy in a nutshell or you want to get faster as an ultimate player, my 2017 book Fast Kids Don’t Train Slow is the guide you need.

You can buy it for Kindle or in paperback on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Fast-Kids-Dont-Train-Slow/dp/1974133478/
All the exercise demos are still available on YouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLl_9tWTZ6EssqHA_YXpKaQfJE6tXPcgz9
And if you ever have questions, just sign up for the Saturday Sprinting Newsletter and reply to any message.
When life moved me to Colorado, my coaching practice moved away from the Austin ultimate community but my commitment to seeing Frisbee athletes stay in the sport and continue to get better has never wavered.
If you aren’t sure whether coaching is for you, you can still make next year your fastest year yet – and do it with my field guide to speed development for ultimate.
Train hard and train smart — just don’t ever train slow.
— Coach Dunte
