I lost EIGHT YEARS after my Achilles injury.

Back in 2016, all I wanted was to run faster.
I was pretty good in the sprints and hurdles for an age-grouper.
In a rush to get better yet, I did too much volume with too high intensity.
Things were stiff in the morning and ached after training, but I ignored all the warning signs…
Until one day, POP! My left tendon was mildly strained.

With a combination of pain meds, massage, and stubborness, I kept training.
Then, in the middle of pole vault on day 2 in a state decathlon, BANG!
My right tendon was done.

Six months of rehab didn’t get me ready to sprint again, so I quit.

I hung up my spikes. I went back to gentler sports.
I quit those, too, because they didn’t give me that feeling.
I stopped training. I gained weight. I felt like crap.

I decided in 2024 I would spike up and race again, no matter what it took.
I did everything differently: slower, lower, less, and less often.
I built a care team. I took their advice.
I took my OWN advice.

Then in 2025, I competed at the Masters Indoor World Championships in MY event.
I got my butt handed to me and didn’t make it out of prelims, but I was officially back!
Just running over sticks again was enough to remember: I want to compete at my best.

Training hard and competing hard make me happy.
Winning is nice, but it’s not why I’m here. BEING here is why I’m here.
